At my house, we have started a simple habit of listening to worship music videos before we go to bed. We used to watch the news or look at Face Book. It was a lot of negative stuff filling our heads and hearts before we slept. You wouldn’t believe the difference it makes singing about Jesus rather than hearing about world disorder before closing your eyes at night.
Last night, one of my favorite worship songs played from the TV. It was Maverick City’s Wait On You. The words and the meanings really struck a chord with me. All night my heart sung their words. Let me share a few lines of their lyrics:
I’m gonna wait on You
I’ve tasted Your goodness
I’ll trust in Your promise
I know You ordered every step
Yeah, You are the Author
And there’s no predicting what is next
But You hold the future
And all the questions they come second
To the one I know is true, yeah
Oh, you’ve always been true
We have been taught all of our lives to be independent. As infants we were taught to feed ourselves. Then as we got older, we learned how to bathe and dress ourselves. The older that we got, the more that we knew how to do.
But sometimes, the Lord makes us wait on Him. He wants us to lean on Him and trust in His promise. It’s not about our will but His Will. Not our Way but His Way. We need to let His Goodness and Glory shine over our lives.
While you wait on the Lord you will become stronger. Your understanding will become complete. No longer will you doubt His goodness or forget what he has promised. Wait on the Lord and see what happens. Wait on the Lord and know that He is God.
“Out of the depths I cry to you, Lord;
2 Lord, hear my voice.
Let your ears be attentive
to my cry for mercy.
3 If you, Lord, kept a record of sins,
Lord, who could stand?
4 But with you there is forgiveness,
so that we can, with reverence, serve you.
5 I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits,
and in his word I put my hope.
6 I wait for the Lord
more than watchmen wait for the morning,
more than watchmen wait for the morning.
7 Israel, put your hope in the Lord,
for with the Lord is unfailing love
and with him is full redemption.
8 He himself will redeem Israel
from all their sins.” Psalms 130
