In the midst of our bustling lives, it’s natural for some to wonder why we extend our reach beyond our own community to serve in foreign lands. The inquiry often arises: “With so many needs in our own backyard, why go abroad?” To this, I simply respond, “If not us, then who will go for the lost?”

Luke 19:10 reminds us of the heart of our mission: “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” This verse echoes louder than ever in a world where approximately 3.3 billion souls have yet to hear the name of Jesus. Imagine the weight of that number—the countless individuals who may never experience the boundless grace and love of Christ unless we take action.

Each of us is uniquely called to fulfill the Great Commission, whether it be in our local communities or across distant borders. Yet, for many, the journey abroad seems daunting or unattainable. We may find ourselves entangled in the web of excuses, be it the demands of daily life, familial obligations, or simply a reluctance to step out of our comfort zones. But let us not forget: Jesus doesn’t measure our worth by our accomplishments or excuses; He beckons us to love Him so fervently that we’re compelled to go.

Matthew 9:37 reminds us of the vastness of the task at hand: “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few.” Some among us are blessed with abundance, enabling us to support those willing to embark on missions. Others are called to fervent prayer, interceding on behalf of those who go forth. Each of us possesses unique gifts and talents, all of which are vital in spreading the Gospel. It takes the collective effort of the entire body of Christ to fulfill this sacred duty.

As I reflect on my own calling, I am reminded of John 14:12: “Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.” Our mission is not confined by geographical boundaries; it’s a global mandate to proclaim the love of Christ to all nations.

So, won’t you join us? Whether it’s in Peru, Hong Kong, Puerto Rico, Uganda, or wherever the Lord leads, there’s a place for you in this mission of love and redemption.
